GeoEnergy NI

Are you ready to discover the heat beneath your feet? 

GeoEnergy NI is a geothermal demonstrator project in Northern Ireland, funded by the Department for the Economy (DfE), with scientific support from the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI). 
GeoEnergy NI is a milestone project of the Energy Strategy Action Plan, which focuses on delivering a reduction in energy-related emissions as part of the pathway to deliver net zero carbon and affordable energy by 2050. 
Northern Ireland is very fortunate to have favourable geology with significant untapped potential for geothermal energy. GeoEnergy NI will help us ‘unearth the heat beneath our feet’ by examining both shallow and deep geothermal at the Stormont Estate, Belfast and College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, Greenmount Campus near Antrim, respectively. 
A key strand of the GeoEnergy NI project is helping increase our understanding of the potential role that geothermal energy can play in Northern Ireland’s green economy and future energy mix. The GeoEnergy NI project has developed an XR modular package that can be distributed on iPads. The interactive and immersive modules exploring geothermal energy can be individually selected in any order and played through seamlessly. Together they deliver over 80 minutes of engaging and educational content about energy more widely, renewable energy and the potential of geothermal energy in the fight against climate change.
