  Linking TTS to system alerts was the last straw..

  I was already thrown off by seeing the word d@mn in the first story I decided to test on this app, and by not hearing anything when testing the TTS from the menu, but pressing play and not hearing the TTS playing I decided to come to the reviews. I only found 1 review stating the TTS didn’t work, and the developer responded that they needed to ‘unmute’ their device. This confused me as my sound was turned up, before I realized what that had to mean. Now, I’ve been using TTS in another similar app for over 10 years now to listen to fanfiction stories without any problem. I also have not had my phone set to give me audible alerts.. EVER. It is set to vibrate only. Having TTS set to follow system alert rules is just terrible design. I refuse to turn on my system sounds and be bombarded with notification sounds endlessly throughout the day just because this developer cannot figure out how to distinguish the TTS as an audio playback rather than a notification sound that should be muted by the phone’s ringtone settings.. absolutely ridiculous design. Also the most expensive app I have seen thus far in my search for a replacement for fanfiction.net’s app that unfortunately has stopped being supported by their devs. 5 of them were all agreed that 2.99 a month of 24.99 a year was about right for what I have been experiencing for free for the past decade + with that app but didn’t even have a decent enough search engine to be able to find stories by their fandom or search for crossovers by the same. I was hopeful when I found that this app could, but the only reason I would ever use an app would be to listen to the fiction read aloud.. otherwise I would just go to the site myself which has a VERY powerful search engine. No TTS without me enabling my ringer means no business from me. If you’re gonna try to charge people twice as much as other apps do you need to make a better app. While most of the other apps I downloaded had terrible search engines their TTS worked fine.

  Fake comments, fake ratings

  Go to any other reading app and you’ll have a better experience. I was looking for one simple thing: an app where I can store, download and read stories. This app forces a censorship filter on the stories and makes you pay to turn the censoring off. Making money off of free and public information without paying the creator is despicable. Not to mention AI is inappropriately embedded into every other page, setting and feature of the app. I had the app for 5 minutes, then uninstalled.
