Know your network at a glance A color-coded dot in your menu bar tells you your connection quality in real time — green when things are good, yellow when latency creeps up, red when you're losing packets. One click shows your public and private IP addresses, ISP, average latency, packet loss, signal strength (RSSI), Wi-Fi channel, band, and the BSSID of your access point. Catch Wi-Fi roaming problems If you have multiple access points — a mesh network, a router and range extender, or a corporate Wi-Fi system — your Mac silently moves between them as you walk around. This roaming is supposed to be seamless, but it often isn't. A poorly timed handoff can freeze a video call, stall a file transfer, or drop a VPN. WiFi Scout's ping history highlights BSSID changes in bold the moment they happen, so you can see exactly which roam coincided with the problem. If your Mac is bouncing between two access points with weak overlap, you'll see it immediately. Understand channel congestion Wi-Fi channels get crowded. If a neighbor's router is competing on the same 2.4 GHz channel, or your access point flips to a congested one, your performance suffers. WiFi Scout records the channel and band for every ping so you can correlate slowdowns with channel changes and give your network administrator the exact data they need.
