Cataract Logbook is a tool for ophthalmology residents to easily track and reflect on their cataract surgeries using a structured, step-based approach. Built around the reverse training method published in BMJ Open Ophthalmology by Malavazzi, Lake & Soriano (2019, DOI: 10.1136/bmjophth-2018-000190), the app mirrors the progressive steps of phacoemulsification, helping residents learn safely and improve with confidence. Residents log each surgery by step, rate their own performance, and export data for structured review or academic presentation. The app was designed by cataract surgeon Jonathan Lake, MD, and aims to flatten the steep learning curve of phaco while building a clear, exportable surgical record for training and beyond.
