The UNHU Platform shall empower workers with awareness and convenient, affordable access to essential services that can enhance their quality of life, by partnering with a wide ecosystem of employers, financial services providers, healthcare providers, legal service providers, worker forums, foundations, NGOs, Government agencies and other relevant organizations. In our quest to gain an in-depth understanding of the needs of the unseen workers, we aspire to commission research periodically on different segments. In this context, our initial research was a pan-India study, focused on the segment of truck drivers. A brief summary of this research is mentioned below. The trucker’s profession, however, is very demanding and involves obvious as well as implicit issues and challenges e.g. irregular shifts, long trips without adequate rest, hostile working conditions, unaddressed health issues, etc. This study aims to facilitate evidence-based planning and interventions for the welfare of truck drivers, by providing insights into their situation, health and well-being.
