CutCaptions — Accurate Multilingual Subtitles for Final Cut Pro

Create multilingual subtitles directly in Final Cut Pro with the CutCaptions Workflow Extension.

CutCaptions creates accurately timed subtitles based on your project’s FPS and timeline structure. Subtitles attach to the corresponding clips in the primary storyline, helping them stay aligned as you continue editing your project.

Use the Workflow Extension to send a Final Cut Pro project to CutCaptions, select the role containing speech, and process subtitles without leaving your editing workflow. When processing is complete, drag the generated Compound Clip directly back to the Final Cut Pro timeline.

CutCaptions also works with exported FCPXML projects and supports transcription of standalone audio and video files.

Before generating subtitles, place any standard Final Cut Pro title or compatible Motion template in your project and customize its appearance, font, size, position, and styling. CutCaptions uses that title as the subtitle template.

The workflow is designed for post-production. After transcription, review and edit subtitle text in CutCaptions, copy it together with timecodes for external editing, then paste it back while preserving subtitle timing.

CutCaptions uses Whisper for local speech recognition directly on your Mac. Multilingual transcription supports a wide range of languages while keeping processing local.

CutCaptions does not include built-in title templates. It works with standard Final Cut Pro titles and compatible Motion templates installed on your system.
